Colloquium on Health Literacy
|Date:||Friday, May 10, 2013|
|Time:||1:00 pm – 3:00 pm|
|Location:||Wentworth Library, West Saint Paul|
Kevin L. Perez Rodriquez, Assistant Director of Discapacitados Abriéndose Caminos, (D.A.C.), will present an educational seminar on the “Rights and Obligations of Patients, Family and the Health Care Provider,” sponsored by the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota (LFM). … Medicine is a subculture in our society. Although every person from birth to death uses the services of health care providers, according to the Institute of Medicine, only 12 percent of adults display proficiency in health literacy. Mr. Perez will share his experience of working with diverse populations and how the lack of health literacy impacts outcomes in medical treatment, management of disease and overall health.
D.A.C. has provided services in the Twin Cities for over 15 years, providing disability education, assistance in navigating complex systems such as schools, social services, and healthcare. Perez offers advocacy and provides support to families who care for loved ones with disabilities.
Pre-registration is preferred, but walk-ins are welcome. To register or for more information, contact Gustavo Taberna, LFM Community Outreach Coordinator, at [email protected] or 952-746-5151. Certificates of attendance will be available.
