Spirit, awareness and motivation making a difference

Making change with spirit, awareness and motivation.

“Change can only occur with spirit, awareness and the motivation to make a difference.”

Stride by stride and side by side, you can make a difference too, as hundreds join us for the Lupus Walk for Hope and 5K Run events that are happening in the Twin Cities, Rochester and Duluth on September 8, 15 and October 6 respectively. Join us.

Spirit can definitely be found with our Lupus Ambassadors Kim Schandel, to whom the opening quote can be attributed, and Gwen Alexander. Both these ladies exude spirit … Gwen, with her purple-streaked hair for lupus awareness, wanted to get involved because she hadn’t previously connected with anyone else with lupus. Kim was instrumental in bringing the Walk/5K to Duluth for the first time last year.

They’ll be leading the spirit of the events this year too. At the Walk/5K, you’ll hear their lupus stories and be moved by the hundreds of others who are there for the same cause. What’s more significant and spirit-filled than a large gathering of people in one place, united by one cause?

The event itself creates awareness, much of which is driven by you as a participant … by you reaching out to your friends, family, coworkers, and other contacts to let that know that this  is happening, telling them about your connection to lupus and telling them why this cause is important.

And that cause IS our motivation. Your participation in and donations to the Lupus Walks for Hope and 5K Runs, help us here at the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota provide direct support to those who are touched by lupus, as well as to build the grant moneys we provide to prominent researchers in the field of lupus research. Our motivation is to serve those with lupus and to help discover its cause and cure.

Imagine what a change that would create!

So, join us. Take the first steps. Register today:

Twin Cities
Saturday, September 8
French Regional Park, Plymouth

Saturday, September 15
Essex Park

Saturday, October 6
Lakewalk, beginning at Grandma’s Sports Garden and Event Center

Click the links above for additional event information and to be taken to the registration pages. You can register for the FREE Walk (an approximately one-mile route) or the 5K Run/Walk (open to walkers or runners). Sign up as an individual, create a team or simply support someone who is already participating … whether you know them or not.

Then, spread the word. Tell others. Help inspire change surrounding lupus with your spirit, your motivation and your efforts of awareness.

If walking or running isn’t for you, consider other ways to make a difference:

  • Honor or remember loved ones who are touched by lupus with a Course Tribute Sign. Signs will be placed along the Walk/5K routes at all three locations.
  • Donate to the silent auction.
  • Become a corporate sponsor.
  • Donate in-kind post-event refreshments, water, 5K prizes, team incentives, etc.
  • Volunteer for on-site event-day duties.

As always, call the LFM office at 952-746-5151 or contact us (link to [email protected]) to commit to any of the above or for answers to any of your questions.

We look forward to making a difference and creating change, stride by stride and side by side with YOU!
