Not just par for the course: personal connection tees up golf league fundraiser
When Catherine (Katie) Tocko’s women’s golf league at Valleywood Golf Course in Apple Valley was looking for a new charity for their annual Women’s Thursday Night Golf League Fundraiser, Katie knew it would be for the cause that was nearest and dearest to her heart … the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota.
Katie has lupus. It was her and her foursome who stepped up four years ago to take on planning of this fundraising night, directing funds raised to LFM.
“The event is always a fun night filled with games, goodie bags, silent auction and usually falls on ‘brat night,’” Katie says. The events have included the sale of goodie bags containing golf balls, tees, and golf store coupons; putting for prizes; guessing the number of tees in a jar for prizes; selling mulligans; and silent auction.
Thanks to the efforts of Katie and her foursome and the generosity of the league members, over the last four years, the event has raised over $4,000, with this year’s league night generating over $1,300.
The Valleywood Women’s Thursday Night Golf League Fundraiser is just one example of the many events that those with connections to lupus organize to benefit LFM. For more information on hosting your own event, please contact LFM.
