Jamming awareness, fundraising and fun into 24 hours on air
KFAN’s Cory Cove talks about his annual radio marathon, happening May 3-4
by Cory Cove, KFAN 100.3 FM
We are entering our seventh year doing the 24-hour show benefitting the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota (LFM). It’s pretty hard to believe it’s already seven years. Seems like just a few months ago we were giving this thing our first attempt and in the process making tons of mistakes. But seven years later, we’ve built this thing from an $1800 science experiment gone wrong into an event that brought in over $50,000 last year – all of which goes straight to LFM. Everyone here at KFAN and Clear Channel couldn’t be happier about all the awareness this event has brought to both the disease and the people fighting it.
This year’s 24-hour show will take place on May 3-4 from noon to noon on KFAN, FM 100.3 in the Twin Cities. You can also listen to the event on kfan.com or by finding FM 100.3 on iHeartRadio. As always, I’ll be broadcasting for the entire 24 hours. And as always, I’ll be joined by the entire KFAN staff, such as Chris Hawkey, Paul “Meatsauce” Lambert, Ben Leber, Mark Rosen, Paul Charchian, Paul Allen, Brandon Mileski, Dan “The Common Man” Cole, Justin Gaard, Dan Barreiro and more.
We will once again be partnering with WinningCause.org to auction off some amazing experiences. Items this year will include things such as golfing with NFL Hall of Famer and former Minnesota Viking John Randle; being a Vikings reporter for a day; a Vikings football clinic with former Viking Ben Leber and current Viking Chad Greenway; along with terrific packages from the Timberwolves, Wild, Lynx, Saints and more. We will also have dozens of autographed pucks, baseballs, basketballs, footballs, hockey sticks, bats and more. All of the auction items will be available to everyone at WinningCause.org starting Monday, April 28 and will remain up until the end of the show on Sunday, May 4. Please get the word out to as many people as possible by word of mouth, Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook. Let’s get these auctions pushed as high as we can, all to benefit LFM.
For the fourth straight year, we’ll also be auctioning off a Lasik procedure from Whiting Clinic Lasik and Eye Care. Get rid of glasses and contacts and help LFM at the same time. Whiting Clinic has been the title sponsor the last handful of years and has helped the show raise somewhere around $10,000 for their donated procedures.
This is always my favorite radio day of the year. Selfishly, it’s ridiculously fun to do. We just hang out, wing it, have fun and try to raise as much money as possible for the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota. Hopefully you listen and donate this year as well. I hope you have as much fun listening as we do broadcasting it. Thanks to everyone who has supported this event the last six years. Let’s make the 2014 version the biggest one yet.
