People living with lupus may face unexpected obstacles (emotional, physical and financial) due to sometimes unpredictable and sudden flares of their illness. The Lupus Foundation of Minnesota (LFM) offers Horizon Emergency Grants (HEGs) to assist people with lupus who are financially independent but temporarily experiencing a financial crisis that community resources will not cover.
Since the first grant awarded in 1999, the program has helped hundreds of individuals by providing necessary support through periods of crisis. Funding has been provided for needed medical equipment, treatment and medications, as well as services and items critical to maintaining the individuals emotional and physical health and wellness.
Individuals applying for a HEG must meet all eligibility requirements, and if a grant is approved, LFM will only provide direct payment to the identified vendors, rather to the individual, to cover the request. There is a cap on the total amount of funds an individual may request with each application, and annual limits to the frequency with which an individual may receive HEG support.
