Lupus Foundation Funding |
funding « home |
The Lupus Foundation of Minnesota derives its funding from a variety of sources but in general relies on the generous support of countless individuals and businesses that have been loyal contributors over the years.
Events:
The Foundation hosts two signature events each year. First, 2010 marks the twelveth year of the Lupus Golf Classic. The event will be held on the Wednesday, July 7 at StoneRidge Golf Club in Stillwater. The proceeds from this event will provide resources for grant making for lupus genetics research, and support summer research fellowships.
The second event is the Lupus Walk for Hope and 5K Trail Run, held on Saturday, September 11, at French Regional Park in Plymouth, and on Saturday, September 18, at Essex Park in Rochester. Income from the Walk for Hope and 5K Run is used to support lupus genetics research as well as services provided to lupus patients throughout Minnesota and beyond. This event is in its thirteenth year.

General Contributions:
Donations come in many forms: memorials, gifts given in honor of those afflicted with lupus, responses to the spring annual campaign or the end of year holiday campaign and often simply based on the thoughtful and caring initiative of our donors. Of course, we always honor any specified donor directives. The Lupus Foundation of Minnesota is a 501(c)(3) organization making donations tax-deductible. Further, the Foundation meets all the standards set forth by the Charities Review Council (www.smartgivers.org).
Gift Planning:
By making a planned gift, you can make a significant contribution to the work of the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota. Gifts can be designated to specifically support direct services to clients, cutting-edge research or operations.
Well-designed gift planning can help you achieve your philanthropic goals and provide significant tax benefits for you and your family while supporting the Foundation in its charitable mission.
LFM offers many opportunities for donors to express their commitment to our work or to honor a friend or family member through a named or endowed gift. For some, that may mean a gift that can be used right away and for others, it may mean establishing a gift that can fund a specific effort which is ongoing or will provide support in the future.
Annual program funds can address immediate needs for direct client support, educational programs and operations, communications and technology, or annual research grants. Permanent funds (or endowed funds) can be established to provide support for any aspect of the Foundation’s work over time and can create a unique long-term legacy of giving for you or your family.
We urge you to meet with your legal representative or financial adviser to determine the most appropriate way for you to give and the best language to use when making a bequest.
LFM cannot provide legal or financial advice but we would be happy to provide you with information about current or future programming and grant making within the Foundation and current areas of need.

Susan Barry Meckstroth Research Endowment:
Twenty years ago a number of interested and forward thinking parties founded and provided initial funding for the Susan Barry Meckstroth Research Endowment. Over the years the endowment principal has grown to nearly $1.2 million. To keep the endowment principal intact, only the investment returns from the endowment are used to make research grants. To date, over $1 million of endowment earnings have funded lupus research! For more information or to make a contribution, contact the President of the Foundation at 952-746-5151.
Lupus Pickup Service:
Every day trucks with the Foundation’s name and logo are traveling metro area neighborhoods picking up donated clothing and household goods that will be sold to provide financial support for the operations of the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota. Donor generosity in this area enables us to devote more of the time and energy of Foundation staff to our very important mission. Scheduling a pickup at your home is as easy as following the quick steps at www.lupuspickup.org or dialing 651-748-0400.
