It’s a boy!

Welcome to the world Kevin Charles Bauer!

Today would have been my due date. Our little man decided to come into the world a little early. I was at 38 weeks and 4 days when Pete and I went into the hospital on Thursday, March 6 around 1 p.m.

I held off on getting pain medicine to see how things went. Like I said in previous blogs, I didn’t really have a birth plan because I didn’t know what to expect. I really wanted to be up and moving around as much as I could. I was put on oxygen for a little bit to make sure he was getting enough during labor. I first tried an IV pain medicine, which was helping just fine until they broke my water at 9 p.m. I did end up getting an epidural around 10:30 so that I could be more comfortable and relax some. babybauer2I tried to be tough, but it comes to a point where you just need to relax even a little. The pain meds did make me throw up a little bit, but it wasn’t too bad and I have a past with pain medicine making my stomach upset. They little guy entered the world at 3:23 a.m. on Friday, March 7.

The recovery for me is a little different than I expected. I think my focus was more on preventing my lupus from flaring, so I completely underestimated the normal recovery. Your body goes through a lot and it needs time to heal. I’ve had a hard time resting. Many people told me that I need to make sure to take care of myself too and I brushed it off because it’s such an obvious thing. But now that I have him to take care of, you really do put your baby first and taking care of yourself is put on the back burner.

Pete was off work all last week and home with us. That was really helpful and one of the best things we did. It also helps that Kevin is a very good baby so far. He only cries when he wants food, needs to burp or poop or needs his diaper changed. He’s only been waking up once or twice a night, which is helpful with me getting sleep at night.

We are so blessed with how good this pregnancy has gone and that we have a happy, healthy baby to add to our family! Little Kevin makes all the doctor appointments well worth it!
