Uniting for a common purpose

2

We recently finished the Lupus Walk for Hope and 5K in Plymouth on September 14, Rochester on September 28, and the last event in Duluth on October 5. Time has flown by, as it seems like it was just last week we were in Duluth. I’m grateful to have participated in all three Walk/5Ks and even more grateful my body decided to cooperate with me through the weather, travel, and excitement of it all.

As Ambassador, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many wonderful people and made some friends for life. I have never been a part of a fundraising event before, but God willing, I know I’ll have my team walking for years to come. My friends and family were amazed at the outpouring of love and support they experienced that day. I recall thinking how empowering it felt to be united by a common purpose: to raise awareness and funds for lupus research. It was such a powerful experience that will long live in my heart.

It certainly takes a village to pull the walks off and my gratitude goes out to everyone who contributed to making them a big success. I can never thank Jennifer Monroe and Sara Otto enough. Of course, special thanks goes to Cory Cove from KFAN who so generously donates his time and talents to the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota (LFM).

I’ve been so inspired by the positive impact each fundraising event has had on me. One of the biggest aspects to staying strong and healthy with lupus is my passion for fitness. I’ve decided to kick-off the first annual indoor cycling ride at Surge Cycling in January with proceeds to benefit LFM. Please stay tuned for more details as it’s sure to be a great event.

My next blog entry will feature my husband, Patrick, as he shares some insights as his role of husband and caregiver to a loved one battling lupus. I wish you a very happy, healthy, and flare-free holiday season!

Hello Chris! it sounds like these walks are an experience that just have to be lived at least once. Also glad to hear you have such a solid team and supportive family working behind you. I know from experience that that support is essential when pushing yourself through demanding events. I look forward to hearing how the Surge Cycling event goes in January (it sounds like a great way to kick off the new year!).

    Hi Achieve!

Im very fortunate that i do have a strong support system. Truth be told, their support of me has skyrocketed since this walk because sometimes, when we are all in the middle of it, its hard to see just how encompassing lupus can be. We were all able to step back, look around at a large group of people, and see we all have gone through similar experiences. Amazing!!

Ill be announcing my spin a thon soon but its scheduled for January 25th at surge cycling in St. Louis Park, MN.. Im hoping you can come out that day!

Thanks for your support along this journey too. Have a happy Thanksgiving!

    Xoxo,
    Chris
